Beauty in the Sonoran Desert

Anna's Hummingbird in the desert, December 24, 2015

by cheri sabraw

Season’s Greetings from the Sonoran Desert!

This Anna’s Hummingbird visited my feeder today. His name is Harry.

Harry is pure beauty– a symphony, a unity of color and balance, petite proportion and aesthetic gorgeousness.

P1020953May your drinks tonight be filled with sweet nectar.

May your wings be humble but your grip secure.

May your focus be intense and your tail feathers ready for flight.

May Nature’s miracles sustain you throughout  difficult times.

May we all remember to thank those who feed and nurture us.

May we keep the faith.

Keeping the faith, a Blessed Christmas to you & yours, Cheri.

  2. Richard says:

Never still. All waking hours spent for the sustenance of life and action. To seek and to find. There is the faith. There is the beauty and the marvel of the little humming bird.

Such is your devotion at this festival of rebirth and promise of light, and your reward.

A Very Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones and a Happy New Year!

The hummingbird is a marvelous bird and the living proof of an intelligent design and of a supreme being somewhere. Merry Christmas to all and a healthy New Year.

  4. Cheri says:

What a fine way of putting it! And all the same to you and Therese!

I’ve never connected hummingbirds with the desert. And what a fine photo you’ve offered. The detail’s superb. What a treat to have cameras that can capture these flitty little creatures, so that we can admire them at our leisure.

Best wishes for the New Year!

  6. Cheri says:

Thank you! Many species of hummingbird are here in Arizona for the winter.

  7. wkkortas says:

I miss the hummingbirds, as Winter is finally knocking on the door (fairly politely by its own standards, as it has no particular reticence about kicking the damn thing in.) May all be merry and bright now and all of the upcoming year.

  8. Cheri says:

Winter is now swirling the door all over tarnation. Those poor people in North Texas…God, I’ve driven that stretch during a tornado and it is scary. The hummingbirds are very happy here in Arizona and driving each other crazy.
